They are at work somewhere... let's check under the watermelon.

Lid removed, beware worms at work!

Worm factory

I have worms!

Introductions... I've always been fond of them. Its the good-byes I don't really care for. My favorite introduction as of late is, "I've got worms!" and I do. Hundreds, maybe thousands of them. Four years ago when I moved back to the United States and into a small third floor urban condo I was desperate to find a way I could compost on my deck. My research led me to worms. Not just any kind of worm, but manure worms. Red wigglers. I found many sources on-line where these little transexual guys and gals could be purchased. As somebody who likes to do things from scratch I decided to buy 36 worms from a bait shop in Oshkosh, WI. The worms came home with me and I promptly placed them in their new home fashioned out of a plastic file box. Most of the worms died within a few months, but somehow a few made it and now I have hundreds in my home. Their progeny have found at homes of my friends and have been faithfully reproducing.

My worm colony outgrew their bin and I gave them an "upgrade" that didn't work so well so I broke down and dropped 90 bucks on a Worm Factory. The factory, pictured below, is working rather well but after years in the factory my worms may be ready to change real estate yet again. I want to try making a continuous flow system that I have found on http://www.instructables.com, but that is for another post. Today I wanted to introduce myself and my worms.
